Planning framework
- The fallow factory sites of the former Geeste-Metallbauwerft and Kalksandsteinfabrik Kistner were acquired by the city.
- In 2016, a town planning competition took place. In September 2016, the jury awarded the first prize to the architectural and urban planning office Spengler & Wiescholek in cooperation with Bruun & Möllers Garten- und Landschaftsbau.
- The demolition work (demolition of all old buildings except for listed parts such as chimney and press hall) was carried out until autumn 2018.
- During 2018/19, the complete chimney renovation took place, followed by the completion of the quay renovation in 2020.
- Promenade and open space design will take place following the investor development by the end of 2021.
- The residential development conducted by STÄWOG and GEWOBA begun in 2020.
- The first construction phase is scheduled for completion at the end of 2021 (public infrastructure).
- From 2024/2025, the second construction phase can be realised, after the temporary school has been dismantled.
